About this Host

For the past 10 years, Doyal Gauranga’s second home has been the kitchen. Born and raised on the California coast, Doyal’s Italian upbringing set the stage for his later calling as a chef.

When he moved from his family’s home into a monastic setting, food took on an entirely new meaning and he soon learned the importance of cooking conscious food for his fellow brothers.

Since 2003, he’s traveled from west coast to east and over to India to further his spiritual and culinary journey. In the summer of 2013, he began his transition out of monastic life in order to co-start a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching and community development, as well as launch his own catering enterprise. He resides in the East Village.
