About this Host
Both Jennifer and Erin admit that their lives resemble a romantic comedy (although they say it’s often heavier on the comedy than the romance). Jennifer grew up loving all things chick flick, and penned her first fan letter to Nora Ephron. She wrote for “Entertainment Weekly” for a decade, mainly around women’s issues in entertainment, before authoring two pop culture books. Erin covers women’s culture and entertainment as well, having written for crushable.com, Yahoo and The Associated Press in addition to her staff editor position at “The Hollywood Reporter.” Jennifer leans Ephron, while Erin falls into the Cusack category.
Grainne O HaraA fun tour with two ladies who are very enthusiastic about their subject matter!
Natalie HairstonWe planned this tour well in advance of our visit to NYC after seeing the review in the NY Times, but I was extremely disappointed. Be prepared to WALK - we met at 78th and ended up at 107th. We had the option to take a cab (this wasn't mentioned in the description and we had already spent $35 for the tour.) Tour is based on "You've Got Mail," but the name is "Rom Com Film Sites." I was used to a few Big Onion walking tours, where the PhD guides used a stack of index cards to ensure they didn't miss any facts and it was educational. This tour consisted of walking to the front of a building and explaining the location (Nora Ephron lived here, Kathleen Kelly lived here, here is the Starbucks, here is the cafe, the Upper West Side is this long and this wide, etc.) There wasn't much mention of "during filming this/that" or inside information about the script/locations. There was a "You've Got Mail" trivia game throughout the tour. The movie screening of You’ve Got Mail was in a dark basement at a bar on 107th, but we ended up leaving after waiting 45 minutes because the A/V equipment wasn't working (missing cord) and didn't see the film. They sent someone to Radio Shack, but our group of six decided to go to dinner instead.
Richard PaoliWe enjoyed the evening. Jennifer and Erin know their subject and it was a a pleasant and entertaining tour. Robin and Richard Paoli
Jenn GrabenstetterJenn and Erin were charming tour guides. It was a perfect, crisp fall day on the Upper West Side - perfect for a You've Got Mail inspired stroll. Would prefer to skip the movie watching and spend more like 2.0 hours on the walking tour portion. There was talk of repeating this tour in different 'hoods in NYC. I'd definitely consider doing another one if there was more walking/trivia/behind-the-scenes info!
Elaine DetroitTour was great fun! Informative, imaginative. An occasion for bonding, to expand on our singular arsenal of facts and insights around past and current romantic films.
