About this Host
Jennifer developed her passion for desserts the simple way: baking with her grandmother and aunt at home. She was there to help with whatever was needed, whether it was mixing complicated ingredients or just licking the brownie batter bowl clean. Since that time, she’s lived by the philosophy, “Eat Dessert First,” and has delved into Philly’s sweeter side by taking pastry arts community education classes at the Restaurant School.
Theresa MariaThis was, by far, the WORST tour I've ever been on. I have taken numerous food tours in Philadelphia (as well as NYC & Boston). Side Tour describes the host as being "passionate about Philly’s sweet scene." I would describe her as "having the personality of a piece of cardboard." If you're expecting to receive information, history, fun facts, or even just pleasant small talk from your guide, this is not the tour for you. If you'd like to spend $30 to be led on a silent walk around the city, with occasional silent pauses to sample a bite (literally) of a dessert at various spots, and then be left to navigate a good 20-minute walk from your first stop without any direction whatsoever, then this is definitely your dream outing! The only time our host spoke to us was to very briefly introduce each stop as we reached it. At the last stop, she ended the tour by informing us that it was our last stop so we could leave whenever we wanted. For those familiar with Philly, this tour starts in Rittenhouse & ends in Old City. She never bothered to tell us where we were going from one stop to the next, and if you happened to be unfamiliar with the city, I guess you were just screwed when the tour ended and you had to find your way back to wherever you parked/came from. As far as the "tour," it consisted of one sentence descriptions of each shop, as in "Gretchen used to bake cupcakes at one bakery, then she opened her own store, and now she does both." Seriously. Just save your $30 and make your own dessert walking tour using Yelp reviews. You can even buy full-size treats at each stop and you'd still spend WAY less than $30 (& probably learn more from the reviews than you would from the host).
Lathea MoskelWe enjoyed a lovely day in Philadelphia visiting many sweet shops and sampling their goodies. Jennifer was a gracious host and filled us in with all the details of each shop as we followered her from shop to shop.
Samantha RomanoTruly an amazing time - the perfect amount of dessert and walking! Jen was very knowledgeable about each stop along the way. I can't wait to go back and try some of the stops other delicious treats!
elana nolanThis was my first dessert tour, actually my first food tour ever. I really enjoyed the different bakeries. Some I knew and some I didn't know so it was nice to learn about these new places and try their desserts. Our host Jenn was amazing and made the dessert tour totally fun and relaxing. Would definaltly recommend this tour to other people. If you have a sweet tooth this is defiantly a tour you want to take.
Katherine VaughanFun and filling tour. Great way to taste Philly's best desserts!
